Ateneo’s Dela Rosa, Joson commit to Gilas Women for Jones Cup

Kacey Dela Rosa is set to make her long-awaited debut for Gilas Women’s.

The 6-foot big man from Ateneo de Manila University has committed to represent Gilas in the 2023 William Jones Cup, which is scheduled to take place in late August in Taiwan.

At the age of 19, Dela Rosa had previously expressed her desire to be part of Gilas Women’s FIBA Asia Cup team.

However, during that time, the incoming sophomore had academic commitments that prevented her from fully dedicating herself to the national team.

Only her fellow Blue Eagle, Jhazmin Joson, was able to join the national team for the continental meet.

Now, Dela Rosa finally has the opportunity to proudly wear the Philippines’ colors and represent the nation on the international stage, alongside Joson.

During her rookie year, Dela Rosa demonstrated her exceptional skills on the court, averaging an impressive 17.67 points, 16.33 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks.

Her outstanding performance earned her the top freshman award and a spot on the mythical team alongside Joson.

In 2019, Gilas Women also participated in the same pocket tournament, unfortunately, they ended up without a win.

Aside from the core of the Gilas Women’s team, head coach Patrick Aquino has also included Gabi Bade and Amaya Bonner in the roster for the upcoming tournament.

With Dela Rosa’s addition to the lineup, fans are excited to see how she will contribute to the team’s performance in the highly anticipated William Jones Cup. Her presence on the court will undoubtedly be a welcome boost for Gilas Women’s Pilipinas as they aim for success in the upcoming competition.
