Ateneo’s Church of the Gesù, Areté illuminate in green to celebrate DLSU’s victory


In a display of sportsmanship and solidarity, Ateneo de Manila University’s Church of the Gesù and Areté were bathed in green lights to celebrate the triumph of their arch-rivals, the De La Salle University Green Archers, in Game Three of the UAAP Season 86 Men’s Basketball Championship.

The Green Archers secured their victory by defeating the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons with a final score of 73-69.

The epic showdown unfolded before a crowd of 25,192 at the SMART Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday evening.

The Green Archers’ journey to clinch the championship was nothing short of remarkable.

After a disheartening 97-67 defeat in Game One, they rallied with resilience, securing an 82-60 triumph in Game Two to level the series.

The climactic Game Three showcased their determination and skill, ultimately leading to their well-deserved championship win.

Ateneo de Manila University took to social media to extend heartfelt congratulations to their rivals.

“Tonight, the Church of the Gesù and Areté are lit up in green. Congratulations to the De La Salle University Green Archers! Animo!” read the school’s official post.

The lighting up of these iconic structures in green not only symbolizes a gesture of respect and acknowledgment but also underlines the strong bond among UAAP universities in celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship.
