Ateneo continues to beef up its squad.
The Blue Eagles were able to secure the commitment of another homegrown talent in Joshua Lazaro, Monday evening.
“Both of these guys have been on the radar not just for Ateneo but also the target of other universities. It’s a credit to them, for their talent, ability, and they’re future,” said Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin referring to Lazaro and Forthsky Padrigao, who made his commitment last August 19.
“And we’re proud to say that they’re future is with the Blue Eagles.”
“Siguro I decided na mag-stay sa Ateneo after college kasi parents, i-stress importance ng education. Given na yung program ni coach Tab. Isa sa pinakamagandang program sa college basketball,” said Lazaro.
Lazaro, who is a 6-foot-5 winger, averaged 13.2 points, 12.8 rebounds, 1.93 assists, 1.47 steals, and 1.33 blocks per game in his first year with the Blue Eaglets.
The 18-year-old transferred from San Beda Taytay a year ago.
Lazaro was part of the Gilas Youth team that competed in the 2017 FIBA Under-16 Asia Cup, and 2018 FIBA Under-17 World Cup.
He, together with floor general Padrigao, will be eligible for Season 84.
Team manager Epok Quimpo also extended the school’s gratitude to Virtual Playground and Charlie Dy for serving as one of the guardians for Lazaro and Padrigao.
