Arwind Santos added yet another milestone to his illustrious career during San Miguel’s 2021 PBA Philippine Cup debut versus Meralco, Sunday.
According to league stats chief Fidel Mangonon III, the 2013 Most Valuable Player became only the seventh player in PBA history to reach 4,000 career defensive rebounds; and the only one among active players right now.
Santos, who is now in his 15th season in the league, achieved the feat after hauling down his first two defensive boards in the first quarter.
The 40-year-old forward has joined some elite company.
On top of the list is Ramon Fernandez with 6,435, followed by Abet Guidaben with 6,197.
Jerry Codiñera comes in at third with 4,623, followed by the 4,446 of Alvin Patrimonio. Philip Cezar is at fifth with 4,208, while Asi Taulava of NLEX rounds out the first six with 4,203 to his name.
Santos and the Beermen are looking to start their season on a winning note against the same team who ended their five-year reign as all-Filipino champs in the bubble play last year in Clark, Pampanga.
