San Miguel Corporation has secured the rights to reigning Governors’ Cup Best Import Arizona Reid following an agreement with Rain or Shine.
A certification letter signed by Atty. Mamerto Mondragon, Rain or Shine’s board governor, which was posted on the Facebook account of Reid’s representative to the Philippines Sheryl Reyes, confirmed the release of the import from his previous mother squad. Sources from both Rain or Shine and San Miguel Beer confirmed the agreement of having the rights of Reid being transferred to San Miguel Corporation.
A highly-placed source from Rain or Shine sent a text message to Tiebreaker Times that San Miguel Corporation requested for the rights of Reid. The team had earlier expressed intentions of looking for another import for the Governors’ Cup.
Reid led the Elasto Painters to a finals stint in the Governors’ Cup and spearheaded the squad’s entry to the semifinal round in the two other conferences he had with the team.
“Since hindi naman na rin namin gagamitin as import si Arizona Reid, pumayag na rin kami na i-release. San Miguel Corporation requested us dahil gagamitin dawn ng isa sa mga teams nila dito sa Commissioner’s Cup,” said the team’s source.
A team insider from San Miguel Corporation who is privy to the transfer of Reid’s right to their camp said it’s likely San Miguel Beer will tap the undersize forward as import.
The Beermen are struggling in the tournament and have yet to win a single game in three matches in the Commissioner’s Cup.
