Even after the National University Lady Bulldogs dispatched the De La Salle Lady Archers in their UAAP Season 78 women’s basketball opener, Pat Aquino says the defending tournament champions are taking it only one game at a time as to not overlook the campaign.
“We are now just playing one game at a time. We are not expecting anything like what we did last year,” Aquino said, adding there are still aspects of the game the Sampaloc crew needs to improve on.
“I’ve been monitoring everyday while I was away. I said I was sorry I cannot focus on the team for at least one and a half months. Medyo kulang pa rin kami. I am not rally mad but there are a lot of different things to do with the team.”
With an intact core composed of experienced players, the Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Archers, 90-78 with leads stretching up to 28 although NU committed 26 turnovers too.
“Let’s just take it one game at a time and I think everything will fall into pieces if you go the right way. Maybe [we] are expected to win but we try to focus on each game and no big expectation at the moment.”
He adds the team should be able to prepare for the other contenders since they all want to dethrone NU from the women’s basketball perch.
“The big expectation is every game the other team is gonna get at us. That is what we are getting ready for,” he closed.
