Wanted: Explosive point guards
Even after impressing in their debut last January 25, that unfortunately led to a loss to the JRU Heavy Bombers, Leo Gabo and Andrew Estrella have decided to focus on playing for the Quezon City Capitols instead of moonlighting with the Mila’s Lechon Mighty Roasters.
The news was revealed by Mila’s head coach Jesse Ricardo following both guards’ absence in the Mighty Roasters’ match against the Perpetual Help Altas on Tuesday afternoon at Ynares Sports Center in Pasig, which they lost, 48-65.
“Naghahanap na kami ng replacement para dun sa position ng dalawang guwardiya pa,” lamented Ricardo.
Mila’s management came up with this decision as, according to Ricardo, Estrella and Gabo have picked Quezon City over Mila’s. So instead of waiting for the two stalwarts, who combined to score 27 points during their debut, the Mighty Roasters’ management decided to move on.
“Sabi ng management sa’kin, may commitment daw sa MPBL… Kung mas pinili nila yun, wala na kaming magagawa dun,” disclosed Ricardo.
Ricardo rued that losing the two will be a big blow for their 2018 Aspirants’ Cup campaign as they have already spent two months with them. Still, he sees the loss of the two as an opportunity for others waiting for a break.
“Sabi nga, marami namang gusto maglaro diyan, so bigyan natin ng break yung iba. Yun naman importante diyan. Kaya nga nasa D-League tayo.”
