Alyssa Solomon blossomed as National University’s main weapon in the most important part of the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament, earning the Finals Most Valuable Player award.
The 6-foot-1 spiker from Laguna unloaded 27 points spread through 20 attacks, four blocks, and three service aces as the Lady Bulldogs reclaimed the crown they lost last year.
NU won Game 2 against University of Santo Tomas for a finals sweep, 25-23, 23-25, 27-25, 25-16 on Wednesday evening in a jampacked SM Mall of Asia Arena with 22,515 in attendance.
“Sobrang saya sa heart kasi hindi kami sumuko na basta-basta lang. Nilaban talaga namin yung game kanina at yung buong season,” said Solomon.
“For me, ang goal ko po talaga is to win the championship, hindi yung individual awards. Mas importante po yung gold.”
Solomon, a two-time Best Opposite Spiker recipient, also had six digs in the clincher.
The NU lifer was nothing short of spectacular in Game 1 as well, dropping 17 points on 14 spikes and three blocks to go with eight digs.
NU downed UST, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 last Saturday.
