Allen Liwag, four others out as Benilde battles flu ahead of Letran clash

By: Miguel Marco

College of Saint Benilde will be shorthanded when it takes on Colegio de San Juan de Letran in a Group B clash of the NCAA Season 101 Seniors Basketball Tournament.

The Blazers will be without Allen Liwag, Gab Cometa, Joshua Cajucom, Ernest Daja, and Jericho Jalalon, all of whom are sidelined by the flu and will not make the trip to the FilOil Centre.

This leaves Benilde with only 13 healthy players for their matchup against Letran, according to head coach Charles Tiu, who is also battling the flu.

Ian Torres is also fighting the illness, but is expected to play through it.

Liwag, the reigning NCAA MVP, is averaging 13.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.

Cometa, the Blazers’ captain, is contributing 6.5 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game.

Meanwhile, Tony Ynot has been activated for the game.

Benilde enters the game with a 1-1 record, while the Knights are still seeking their first win at 0-2.
