Dante Alinsunurin will no longer handle the Phillipine men’s national volleyball team.
Alinsunurin, who was recently named head coach of Choco Mucho in the Premier Volleyball League, revealed the development during the All-Filipino Cup press conference at the Discovery Suites.
“As of now bale nakausap ko yung team manager namin, binaba na nila ako dahil sa sitwasyon. Kaya ngayon, ang hinahawakan ko na lang is yung NU men’s and Choco Mucho,” Alinsunurin told reporters.
“Parang ang nangyari is syempre nagsabi ako sa kanila na maghahandle na ako ng women’s (Choco Mucho) then yun nga tinanong nila ako kung kakayanin ko daw. Ayun nga, sabi nila baka ma-busy ako at hindi ko ma-handle, kinausap ako nung team manager na yun ang sitwasyon na napagusapan nila na ibaba nila ako or hindi na ako yung maging head coach ng men’s [national team],” he added.
According to Alinsunurin, he cleared with the PNVF brass that he can accomodate the national team despite his duties with both the Flying Titans and the Bulldogs.
However, the PNVF chose to go on a different route and informed him that he will no longer handle the team.
“Yung team manager lang ang kausap ko pa lagi e. Parang everyday tinanong nila ako kung ‘Coach, kaya mo ba?’ sabi ko naman kaya ko naman,” said Alinsunurin.
“Kaya lang ayun medyo nag-decide na rin sila, yung PNVF, na palitan na rin siguro ako although wala pa akong narereceive na letter na wala na ako sa national team basta more on team manager lang kausap ko,” he added.
The National University men’s chief tactician assumed the national team head coaching job in 2019 and steered the team to a historic silver medal finish in the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila, ending a 28-year medal drought.
Alinsunurin and the team, however, failed to sustain their momentum as they dropped to fifth in the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam last year.
