Alas, Oftana, Malonzo take part in Gilas’ first practice


Ten players attended Gilas Pilipinas’ first practice for the fourth window of the 2023 FIBa World Cup Asian Qualifiers’ fourth window, Monday at Meralco Gym in Pasig City.

The core of Kiefer Ravena, Thirdy Ravena, Ray Parks, Dwight Ramos, Carl Tamayo, Kevin Quiambao, and Francis Lopez took part in the session that was supervised by head cpach Chot Reyes.

Three PBA reinforcements joined the practice in NLEX’s Kevin Alas and Calvin Oftana and Northport’s Jamie Malonzo.

Alas last played for Gilas back in the second window of the 2019 World Cup Asian Qualifiers while Oftana is making his return to the national team pool since the Manama window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.

Malonzo attended his first-ever Gilas practice.

Gilas are waiting on Magnolia’s Jio Jalalon and Ian Sangalang as both Hotshots are expected to attend practice tomorrow.

Jalalon last played for Gilas back in the third window of the 2019 Qualifiers while Sangalang took part in the fourth window of the same tournament.

Kai Sotto is expected to arrive on the 18th while Jordan Clarkson will join the team the following day.

Gilas, who is 2-2 in the standings, will head to Beirut to face Lebanon on the 25th. They will host Saudi Arabia in Pasay City on the 29th.
