Alas Girls fall to defending champ Japan, bow out of contention in AVC

Alas Pilipinas Girls crashed out of contention in the 15th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship.

The Philippines suffered a straight-set defeat by defending champion Japan, 25-5, 25-16, 25-14, finishing the group stage winless at the Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium in Thailand on Tuesday.

Japan, aiming for a ninth consecutive title in the tournament, displayed their dominance early in the opening frame.

It held the Filipinas to just five points in a set that lasted only 16 minutes.

The Japanese team started with a 14-1 run in the opening frame and never looked back, leaving Alas Pilipinas deflated and taking a 1-0 advantage.

Despite a tough loss in the opener, the Philippines showed more fight in the second and third frames. However, it was not enough, as Japan completed its sweep of Pool B with a 2-0 record, ending the game in just an hour and seven minutes.

Denesse Daylisan led the way for the Akari-backed Alas Pilipinas, finishing with a team-high of only five points on three attacks and two blocks.

Avril Bron, Harlyn Serneche, and Lianne Penuliar were all limited to just two points as the Philippines dropped to the classification phase.

On the other hand, Angelina Murase hammered down 11 points to lead Japan.

Minami Kessoku and Yuzuki Baba chipped in 10 points apiece in the dominant victory.
