Alarcon, Abadiano propel UP to second Interleague Play win


University of the Philippines secured its second win in the 2024 Interleague Play, defeating the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation (CTUSF) select team, 74-64, on Sunday at Keelung Municipality Gymnasium in Taiwan.

After a tight first half against CTUSF, Harold Alarcon and Gerry Abadiano led the Fighting Maroons’ third-quarter surge, scoring nine of UP’s 17 points to extend a narrow 37-32 lead to a more comfortable 54-45 advantage.

With contributions from Abadiano, Alarcon, and Terrence Fortea, UP maintained a double-digit lead in the final frame to secure their second victory.

Alarcon led UP with 14 points, while Abadiano added 12 points. Quintin Millora-Brown continued his strong performance with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Fighting Maroons dominated the boards with a 54-23 rebound advantage and shot 43.8% from the field.

UP’s next matchup is against the Taiwan Professional Basketball Group select team on Monday.

Liu Changxun led CTUSF with 17 points, while Wu Zhikai contributed 15.
