AJ Edu out for U19 World Cup as torn ACL feared

The worst fears of Gilas Pilipinas Youth have come true.

One half of Gilas Pilipinas Youth’s twin towers, AJ Edu, may have torn his Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Meniscus on his right knee.

The physical therapist of the team, George Yorobe, released the initial diagnosis.

The injury occurred just two minutes and three seconds into the game.

Off the rebound, Edu brought the ball down to their side of the court himself. Based on the replays, he banged knees with Greece’s Fotios Georgalas.

The Fil-Nigerian did not return to the game. The Philippines then lost to Greece, 69-85.

The final results of Edu’s MRI will be released on Monday.

If the findings proved true, Edu will also redshirt his sophomore year for University of Toledo in the Mid-American Conference.

But the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas will be with Edu in this ordeal.

“As I said to you, this (national team) is a journey together. We will be with you. Walang iwanan (no one will be left behind). Just focus on recovery now,” said SBP president Panlilio.
