David Carlos reigned supreme in the 2015 NBA 3X’s slam dunk competition, held at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall last Sunday.
In this year’s edition, which featured former title holders, Masshi Miguel Okubo, Ameen Sardouk, as well as Batang Gilas and former Jr. NBA standout, Ricci Rivero, Carlos impressed the panel of judges that includes Danny Green, Kenneth Faried, Golden State Warrior’s dancer Patrisha Festejo Yabes, Jinno Rufino and NBA Philippines’ Carlo Singson with his high-wire acts – highlighted by dunking over Okubo for a reverse jam to clinch his third straight title.
“Air David” adds another trophy to his hardware, and admits that he cherishes this one the most because of the fact that it wasn’t an easy task to win the coveted title for three consecutive years against highly skilled opponents.
“Mas masaya to’ kesa nung una o yung pangalawa kasi hindi naman biro na idefend mo yung title mo ng three years in a row,” he shared with Tiebreaker Times.
He also shared with Tiebreaker Times his light moment with Green, talking and exchanging high fives with the Spurs’ sweet-Shooting Guard before doing one of his dunks that boosted his confidence especially in the finals where he faced Ricci Rivero.
“Sabi niya (Green), alam daw niya na may tinatago pa akong dunk pero hindi ko pa nailalabas…Kaya sabi ko sa kanya tignan niya yung gagawin kong dunk kasi ang baba niya magbigay. (Laughs),” Said Carlos, who also won the Nike Rise dunk contest.
It is sky’s the limit literally for him as he continues his high-flying ways and aims to defend his NBA 3X dunk title as much as he can.
“Yeah sure!” he quickly responded when asked if he plans to defend the title in the future, “If I can defend it three years in a row pa, why not?”
