AFF: Lucban scores but Filipinas U18 fall to Myanmar to end playoff hopes

The Philippine Under-18 Women’s National Football Team bowed out of contention from the knockout round of the 2022 AFF U-18 Women’s Championship after a 3-1 defeat to Myanmar, Wednesday evening, at the Jakabaring Athletic Field in Indonesia.

The result means that the Philippines are yet to tally a point in Group B after back-to-back defeats. On the other hand, Myanmar booked a ticket to the next round with 6 points behind two consecutive wins.

Coach Let Dimzon’s wards faced a two-goal deficit in the first half after Hnin Myint Aye and Su Myat Noe scored past Filipinas goalie Alexis Louise Tan in the 33rd and 37th minutes of the match.

Filipina midfielder Jonalyn Lucban pulled one back for the Philippines in the 87th minute but it was a case of too little too late.

With time running out, Hnin Myint Aye secured her brace in the 90th minute to seal all three points for Myanmar.

The young Filipinas will close out their campaign against Malaysia on Friday in the Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium. Kickoff time is at 4:30 PM Philippine time.

Philippines XI: Tan (GK), Yap, Tolentino, Maniti, Villacin, Flanigan, Lucban, Beatrice, Perez, Alamo, Divino.

Myanmar XI: May Oo Khin (GK), May Thet Mon Myint, Kyal Sin, Kyal Sin, Phyu Phwe, Shoon Lae Naing, Phyu Phyu Win ©, Wai Phoo Eain, Hnin Pwint Aye, Yin Lon Eain, Su Myat Noe, Hay Mann Soe.
