The Philippine Under-16 Men’s National Football Team edged closer to elimination from the 2022 AFF U-16 Youth Championship after a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Vietnam, Wednesday evening, at the Sultan Agung Stadium in Indonesia.
Coach Christopher Pedimonte’s boys saw their floodgates open just before the end of the first half.
Vietnam’s Le Van Thuan and Le Dinh Long Vu scored past goalie Cesar Castro in the 40th and 42nd minutes to take control of the game.
It got worse for the Filipinos in the second half as they conceded three more goals. Phan Thanh Duc Thien added his name to the scoresheet in the 55th minute while Le Dinh Long Vu secured his brace in the 57th minute.
Hoang Cong Hau then capped off the five-goal rout in the 72nd minute.
The result means Vietnam tops Group A with 6 points behind back-to-back wins while the Philippines is yet to tally a point after two straight losses.
Both teams will return to action on Saturday at 9:00 PM. The Philippines will close out its campaign against Singapore in the same venue while Vietnam takes on Indonesia in the Maguwoharjo Stadium.
