Adamson soars to first-ever UAAP girls’ volleyball crown in unblemished season

History was made by Adamson University at the Filoil Ecooil Centre for the second straight day.

The Lady Baby Falcons captured their first-ever UAAP High School Girls’ Volleyball title following a 14-game season sweep, punctuated by a 25-18, 25-18, 28-26 dominance over the National University Nazareth School Lady Bullpups on Monday evening.

This breakthrough championship came less than 24 hours after the school ended a 31-year drought in Boys’ Basketball at the same venue — in the process, handing the school two championship trophies for the season.

“I’m really thankful sa Lord kung anong ginawa niya sa buhay namin. Hindi kami makakating rito kung hindi dahil sa Kanya,” said a grateful Adamson head coach JP Yude.

“In every challenge and in every trial na dumating sa team na ‘to, na may iba, hindi aakalain na ganun ‘yung mangyayari sa team. Pero thankful kami na nag-grow ‘yung bata,” the Adamson lifer continued.

The Lady Baby Falcons had to fend off the defending champions for one last time in the third set.

Down two at 19-21, Celine Marsh and Kianne Olango sent the Lady Bullpups to the lead twice, but eventual Finals MVP Shaina Nitura leveled the set for the final instance at 26 with a huge off-the-block kill.UAAP-86-HSVB-Girls-NUNS-1st-Runner-Up Adamson soars to first-ever UAAP girls' volleyball crown in unblemished season AdU News NU UAAP Volleyball - philippine sports news

From there, her teammates sealed their date with destiny.

Following a brilliant performance all match long, Adamson graduating setter Fel Sagasay caught the opposing defense napping with a huge 1-2 play for the championship point before Abby Segui did the same from the service line with a championship-clinching ace.

Adamson took Game One last Thursday, 25-23, 25-20, 28-26.

The huge momentum started in the first two sets where the Lady Baby Falcons took advantage of the opportunities on the counterattack.

A lead of seven to eight points, especially in that first set, proved pivotal as middle blockers Angie Del Moral and Tuds Tuddao also pinched in timely kills.

“Wala man kami next year kasi may ife-face na bagong challenge sa inyo si Lord na you have to step up on your own without the people who helped you before. You have to step out of your comfort zone para mag-bloom kayo at lumabas kayo lalo,” said the two-time Best Outside Hitter Nitura.
