Adamson University just scored a massive boost ahead of its UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament campaign.
The Lady Falcons showed maturity beyond years, stunning professional club Akari, 25-19, 29-27, 21-25, 23-25, 15-9 to take home the inaugural Akari Cup, Wednesday at the Adamson Gym.
After losing the first two sets, the Eli Soyud-led Chargers charged back and sealed the next two frames to send the title match to a winner-take-all fifth set.
Adamson and Akari went toe to toe in the decider, but Eloi Aljibe’s timely entry midway into the set proved to be the difference maker.
She scored three points in a fiery 5-0 start that gave the Lady Falcons a 12-7 advantage.
Fifi Sharma stopped the bleeding with a quick, but Antonette Adolfo scored two consecutive points to push the varsity team to match point.
Adolfo committed a net error before Lucille Almonte fired a searing off-the-block hit to finish off the game.
Meanwhile, Nxled secured a third-place finish after surviving a gutsy Ateneo de Manila University, 16-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-17, earlier in the day.
