Adamson enters off-season of uncertainty as Romero, Genesis mull going pro

Adamson University proved in UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament that it is a team to watch for in the next editions of the league.

After all, the Lady Falcons turned around their standings from 2-12, rock bottom in Season 81, to 8-6 for a joint fourth seed with Ateneo de Manila University after the elimination round this season.

However, Adamson fell short in its bid for a Final Four spot after losing to the Blue Eagles in the playoff, 20-25, 26-28, 22-25, last Saturday.

But all is well as the Lady Falcons are up and coming led by 2019 PVL Collegiate Conference Season MVP Trisha Genesis and Finals MVP Louie Romero.

Just when everyone thought Adamson will be a strong contender come next season, its head coach Lerma Giron dropped a question.

“Gagraduate ka na ba? (asking Genesis) ito tanungin niyo. Hindi ko alam kung ano plano nito sa buhay eh, tiyaka ito hindi ko rin alam e (pointing at Romero),” asked Giron.

Surprise. Both veteran leaders responded.

“Hinihintay ko ‘yung signal ni Lord, kung ano dapat gawin or kung saan pa ba mas kailangan,” said Genesis afterwards.

“Tingnan na lang po natin kung anong mangyayari sa amin. Hindi pa rin talaga namin alam,” followed Romero.

Well, even Giron herself doesn’t know if she will still be the one handling the Lady Falcons come next season.

But she wouldn’t want it any other way but to still coach her girls in Adamson.

“Talagang very promising itong team na ‘to. Sabi ko nga sa kanila, hopefully by next season sila pa rin ‘yung kasama ko at ako pa rin ‘yung kasama nila,” said Giron.

“Alam ko by next season, hopefully by God’s grace kaya pa natin i-angat talaga doon. Talagang magtatrabaho kami ng todo, para ‘yung Final Four na talaga mahawakan na namin.”

If she will still be the head coach, she wants Genesis and Romero to be still on her side.

Romero was the second-best setter after the elimination round while Genesis was the sixth-best scorer.

But if the players think it’s time to move on, Giron would be happy to let go.

“Nakikiusap ako, sana samahan pa ako by next season kung ako pa rin ang coach,” she added.

“Pero sabi ko naman sa kanila, kung anong plano nila going pro or whatsoever, I will not hinder them to do kung ano ‘yung plano nila.”
