For the second time in three years, AC Soberano proved that he is the best sniper in the NCAA.
The graduating guard from San Beda outlasted Mapua’s Exe Biteng, 16-14, in the finale of the NCAA Season 94 All-Star Three-point Shootout, Friday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
“Malas lang yung kalaban,” expressed Soberano. “Siyempre, sobrang overwhelmed ko kasi na-frustrate ako last year… parang ‘di ko binigay yung best ko. Nagpursigi ako makuha ngayon.”
Soberano won the crown back in NCAA Season 92 but failed to make it to the finals last year.
Going into the final rack, Soberano had already tied Biteng’s total output. But the native of Tarlac knocked down the second ball to gain the lead and win the crown. As the icing on the cake, he knocked down one more to close the competition out.
Both Soberano and Biteng finished the first round with 18 points.
“Mas mataas pressure this year kasi mga kalaban ko may pangalan na rin sila. Kinabahan ako honestly,” added Soberano.
Others competing in the contest were JRU’s Ry De La Rosa (17), EAC’s Jerome Garcia (14), CSB’s Carlo Young (13), Arellano’s Rence Alcoriza (13), Lyceum’s Tosi Tansingco (13), Letran’s Koy Galvelo (12), Perpetual Luke Sese (11), and San Sebastian’s Allyn Bulanadi (7).
Last year’s champion Almel Olquina did not compete.
This is San Beda’s second crown in the All-Star festivities.
