After the Philippine Cup had ended, June Mar Fajardo disclosed that he wanted to win at least one Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference crown. But this conference, the 27-year-old had to miss some games due to Gilas Pilipinas duties while also battling the weather — suffering from a flu twice that limited his minutes.
Still, the San Miguel Beermen were able to reach their second straight Finals largely in part to the contributions of BPC race leaders Alex Cabagnot and Chris Ross, both of whom sported a twin 34.125 statistical points.
Fajardo, a five-time BPC winner, was more than happy to see his two teammates on top of the ladder.
“Siyempre nakakatuwa kasi hindi lang yung isang tao ang gumagawa eh, lahat,” shared Fajardo, who is averaging 15.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per games. “Kita naman sa nilalaro nila, grabe ang nilaro nila this conference, si Chris Ross, almost triple-double a game. Nakakatuwa!”
The proud son of Pinamungajan, Cebu though would rather win the Commissioner’s Cup, a championship that has eluded the franchise for 17 years, than win the BPC. And the 6-foot-10 center knows that it will be tough as they face a formidable TNT Katropa squad.
“Mahirap para sa amin yung match-up na ito, pero basta as long as maglalaro kami as a team then susundin namin yung sistema ni coach, siguro malaki yung tsansa namin na manalo,” Fajardo said as the TNT defeated a Fajardo-less San Miguel squad during the elimination round, 112-103.
“Hopefully makuha namin yung championship, then makuha nila yung BPC.”
