UP maroons Perpetual to get back to winning form

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons turned back the NCAA reigning champions University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas in three close sets, 25-23, 25-17, 27-25, to clinch their third win of the 2018 Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference, Saturday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Team captain Mac Millete continued his fine form, producing 15 markers for the Diliman-based squad in the victory. Middle blocker Joshua Castillo led UP’s net defense and also finished with spikes of his own to end with 12 points.

For head coach Hans Chuacuco, it was a well-played game for the Maroons barring any downtime. “Simula pa naman nung NU game, hindi naman pangit yung nilaro nila. Maganda yung nilaban nila,” he said.

UP had a field day at the net especially in that second set as Castillo and converted outside hitter Matthew Gohoc connived on blocks. At the end, the Maroons ended with 10 rejections, four of which came from Castillo.

However, the UP lifer wants his wards to maintain consistency throughout the match. Chuacuco shared, “Pero gusto ko yung intensity nila ganun pa rin. First set mababa, tapos second set iiwan nila.”

The 3-2 Fighitng Maroons will face the CSB Blazers (2-2) on August 15 at 1:00pm.
