The PLDT Home Fibr Fast Hitters drubbed the Philippine Army Troopers, 25-14, 26-24, 25-20, for their second win in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference Men’s Division Quarterfinals, Saturday morning, at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
After a lopsided first set established by PLDT, Army started the second set with renewed vigor. Army almost had the set, 23-22, but a late 4-1 rally from PLDT buried them in a 0-2 set disadvantage.
Buoyed by a two-set advantage, PLDT cruised in the third set, leading by as much as six, 20-14, after an emphatic single block by Joshua Barrica over Rance Melgar.
PLDT head coach Odjie Mamon lauded his team’s effort and continued development in chemistry.
“Mas nagkaka-chemistry na ‘yung team. Kailangan talaga namin maging sure ‘yung jelling namin for us to really reach our potential,” said Mamon.
Johnvic De Guzman led PLDT with 10 points. Mark Alfafara added nine markers.
Antonio Torres managed 10 markers for Army while open hitter PJ Rojas added nine points.
PLDT (2-0) faces Philippine Air Force (1-0) on Saturday, June 23. Phil Army (0-2) will look to bounce back against Instituto Estetico Manila (0-1) on Wednesday, June 27.
