UST squeaks past FEU, tightens hold on second seed

The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses inched past the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws to earn the second seed in the PVL Collegiate Conference, 25-15, 25-27, 25-18, 22-25, 15-11 at the Xavier University Gym in Cagayan De Oro.

UST end the elimination round with a 6-1 record, while FEU settle for a 5-2 card. The two could possibly meet in the best-of-three semifinals, pending the result of tomorrow’s Adamson (6-0)-San Sebastian (0-6) tiff.

The Tigresses needed to fend off a late FEU rally in the decider. With her availability prior to the match doubtful due to a shoulder injury, Eya Laure rescued UST, scoring four straight points to end the match.

Laure, a former UAAP Juniors MVP, tallied 12 points. Milena Alessandrini led UST with 16 markers, while Caitlyn Viray managed 15.

Czarina Carandang topped the Lady Tamaraws with 13 points, while Lycha Ebon and Heather Guino-O provided 10 points, apiece.
