Petron starts title defense with decisive sweep of Cocolife

Defending All Filipino Conference champions Petron Blaze Spikers strutted their championship form, drubbing the Cocolife Asset Managers, 25-18, 25-15, 25-18, to start the 2018 Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Cup at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Blaze Spikers easily lofted big leads over Cocolife in each set, taking advantage of their plethora of offensive options.

All but one Blaze Spiker saw the court against the Asset Managers, with eight of them pitching in at least a point.

“Masaya naman kami sa pinakita namin today. Kailangan lang namin maging consistent ‘yung ganito kasi nga mahaba ‘yung tournament na ‘to,” said Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos “Lahat ng team gusto mag-champion and siyempre gusto rin talunin ‘yung champion, so dapat ready kami lagi.”

Opposite hitter Aiza Maizo-Pontillas led Petron with 14 points off 10 attacks, three aces, and a block, while Ces Molina added 10 markers.

Fil-American open hitter Kalei Mau topped Cocolife in her debut, managing 13 markers.
