Wangs-Letran arrest two-game slide in romp of JRU

The Wangs Basketball-Letran Couriers learned its lessons from its past two defeats and clobbered the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 73-55, Monday afternoon at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao.

Coming off an 18-day break, the Couriers made sure that they atoned for their miscues in their defeats to Zark’s Burger-Lyceum and Marinerong Pilipino, venting their ire on the hapless Heavy Bombers to halt the two-game losing skid.

“Minake sure lang namin na yung mga mistakes sa dalawang mabigat na kalaban namin, ma-correct namin,” said coach Jeff Napa. “Luckily, maganda ang naging result kaya nakuha namin ang panalo.”

Christian Fajarito capitalized on the opportunity and recorded 15 points and seven rebounds, while Bong Quinto led the third quarter pullaway, pouring eight of his 13 points in the period, while also collecting four boards, and two assists.

Jerrick Balanza also gave a boost off the bench with his 12 points, three rebounds, and two dimes as Wangs-Letran had 46 markers coming off of its reserves.

The Couriers pulled away for good in the third frame as Quinto steered his side to a 28-point explosion in the quarter to establish the decisive 60-38 advantage late in the period.

Aaron De Guzman dropped 12 points and four rebounds, while Jeckster Apinan got 10 markers and 14 rebounds for JRU (1-5), which has now lost five straight games.
