The Cignal HD Spikers learned its lessons from its past defeat and roared back with an 89-63 bounce back victory against the Tanduay Rhum Masters, Thursday evening at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
TNT Katropa Oping Sumalinog went on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc to wound up with 15 points to anchor the Hawkeyes, which shot 9-of-21 from rainbow country.
Raymar Jose contributed 13 markers, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Jason Perkins poured 11 points, four boards, and two assists for Cignal, as it rebounded from its 86-84 loss against Flying V last Thursday.
“We’re really happy with the way the players reacted with our motivation to them,” said coach Boyet Fernandez. “We know we had a won game last game but we lost it and I really appreciate what the players did today. They practiced hard for the last four days and we hope that we can be very solid in terms of our teamwork.”
The Rhum Masters went on a 4-0 start early, but the Hawkeyes replied with 10 straight points to gain the lead and race to a 30-16 lead, which further extended to 29, 77-48, early in the fourth period.
Jaymo Eguilos paced Tanduay with 10 points and six rebounds, while Von Tambeling got 10 in the defeat.
The Hawkeyes forced the Rhum Masters to commit 20 turnovers that led to 19 points.
Cignal will next face the Zark’s Jawbreakers on Monday, June 5 at 12:00nn. Tanduay, on the other hand, faces the CEU Scorpions on Tuesday, June 6 at 12:00nn.
