Valdez, Espejo banner PH U23 volleyball squads


The Philippine men’s and women’s national U23 volleyball teams that shall compete in the upcoming 2015 Asian U23 Volleyball Championship are now set after the rigid selection process of the Larong Volley sa Pilipinas (LVPi) Incorporated went through.

Adding further information, the 2015 Asian U23 Women’s Volleyball Championship will be the inaugural edition of its kind and it will also serve as the Asian qualifiers, with the top two teams of the said tournament advancing to the next phase, for the 2015 FIVB Women’s U23 Volleyball World Championship which will be held in Ankara, Turkey.

The PH women’s U23 team consists of:

2. Gretchel Soltones (San Sebastian College)
3. Jia Morado (Ateneo)
4. Bea De Leon (Ateneo)
5. Ej Laure (University of Santo Tomas)
6. Myla Pablo (National University)
7. Jaja Santiago (National University)
8. Tin Agno (Far Eastern University)
9. Ria Meneses (University of Santo Tomas)
10. Jho Maraguinot (Ateneo)
11. Rissa Sato (Ateneo)
12. Ella De Jesus (Ateneo)

The team will be led by current NU and SSC head coach Roger Gorayeb. The 2015 Asian U23 Volleyball Championship will be hosted by our country, and will be held from May 1 to 9. Games will be played at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City, Philippines. The country is currently bracketed at Pool A alongside Kazakhstan and Iran.

On the other hand, the 2015 Asian U23 Men’s Volleyball Championship is schedule to take place in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar from May 12 to 20. It will also be the inaugural edition of the tournament and will also serve as the qualifier, with also the top two teams advancing, for the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men’s 23 Championship which shall be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Ateneo head coach Oliver Almadro will be calling the shots for the men’s team.

The Philippines men’s volleyball squad is currently bracketed in Pool B along with Iran, Qatar, Malaysia and India. All games will be played at the Wunna Theikdi Stadium in Myanmar.
