UST’s 3-3 places them at 4th after the first round


The Tigresses, last year’s second runner-up, finished the first round of eliminations of the UAAP Table Tennis Tournament with a 3-3 win-loss record to land in fourth at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym, last weekend.

UST vs UP (0-1)

The Espana based squad began their campaign against the Diliman based squad University of the Philippines. UST gave UP a run for their money, forcing a deciding fifth match, but eventually lost, 3-2. Apas and Montes would be the only ones to record wins for the Tigresses.

UST vs ADMU (1-1)

UST would breeze through last year’s cellar-dwellers, Ateneo Lady Paddlers, 3-0. UST had only two games during the first day of eliminations.

Splitting their first day match-ups, the Tigresses had a grueling four matches, which included fa-vourites De La Salle University Lady Paddlers, and last year’s Final Four contender Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws.

UST vs NU (2-1)

In the match-up against the National University Lady Bulldogs, it was the Bulldogs who won the first singles match. Again, Apas would step-up and deliver for UST, getting the 1st set win. The se-cond set, would go to the Lady Bulldogs’ player, but it would go down the wire. Apas would then rally to win the 3rd and 4th sets. The doubles match featured UST’s Tempiatura and Robles. the pair would deal with NU’s pair easily, losing only 1 set. Montes would cap off the UST’s comeback win by sweeping NU’s Duendia. After beating the National University Lady Bulldogs, 3-1 UST ex-tended their record to 2-1.

UST vs AdU (3-1)

UST continued their winning ways against Adamson University. A. Montes would lead the charge and sweep her opponent. Apas, the second singles match representative, would follow Montes lead and do the same to her match-up. UST would not slow down and sweep the doubles match behind the combo of Nacasabog and Darlucio.

UST vs DLSU (3-2)

With a 3-1 record, UST would drop their matches against the DLSU Lady Paddlers. Lupeba would start the series for the Tigresses. The Tigress would drop the first set, but would come back and win both the 2nd and 3rd sets. DLSU’s Gamilla, Lupeba’s opponent, would force a 5th set where Lupeba would finally lose. UST would lose the second singles match. The lone doubles match fea-tured the pair of Tempiatura and Robles for UST. They would force a 5th and deciding set, where they eventually beat their DLSU counterparts. Behind the doubles match win, Apas would try to tie the series and force a 4th singles match, but fails, winning only 2 sets for the Tigresses.

UST vs FEU (3-3)

Coming from a loss The Tigresses would try to bounce back against the FEU Lady Tamaraws. UST would fall short with only their doubles pair winning a set. FEU sweeps UST, 3-0.
