UST defeats DLSU, denies Green Tennisters chance for playoffs

Entering the courts of the Olivarez Sports Center in an extremely crucial match, both the UST Golden Tennisters and DLSU Green Tennisters were quick to deliver their respective blows for a chance to force a playoff or a chance to directly go to second place. Sadly for the DLSU Green Tennisters, fate did not seem to favor them as the smoke cleared up and UST stood triumphant after their close matchup.

With equal amount of desire to win, both the DLSU Green Tennisters and the UST Golden Tennisters entered their respective matches with all guns firing. The first blood of this epic tie came from DLSU’s Qoqo Allian who fell to UST’s Francis Lanzado despite renewed strength in the second set. Their match ended 1-6, 4-6 in favour of the España-based Golden Tennisters.

UST’s victory, however, came at a heavy price as the duo of Ernesto Pantua and Alberto Villamor quickly retaliated and notched a stunning victory against UST’s Joel Cabusas and Bernlo Bering, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. The sudden defeat of UST’s Cabusas and Bernlo Bering ended up rattling UST’s Francisco Santos who, after a fierce first and second set, suddenly stalled in the third set which allowed DLSU’s LA Cañizares to come out on top after a three-set match that ended 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

DLSU’s lead did not last long as UST’s Francis Patino and Al Francis Potutan equalized the die right after overwhelming DLSU’s Dale Gorospe and Akio Sy who despite holding on to their unyielding passion and unwavering mettle, ultimately fell 1-6, 3-6.

With the tie now equalized at 2-2, DLSU’s Kyle Parpan and Bernan Bering were forced to clash in the deciding match of an extremely crucial tie. DLSU’s Parpan was first to draw blood as he swiftly won the first set 6-2. UST’s Bernan Bering, however, quickly answered in the second set as he immediately fought back against DLSU Parpan and won the match 4-6. UST’s Bering did not stop there as he noticed Parpan at a vulnerable state and used it to his advantage to win the match with a final 6-0 set.
