Tigresses take game one of Women’s Beach Volleyball Finals

The UST Tigresses are one win away from sweeping the UAAP Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament as they took down the DLSU Lady Spikers, 21-15, 25-23 at the UE Caloocan Sandcourts.

With DLSU taking an early 15-13 lead in the first set, Thomasina, Cherry Rondina would take matters into her own hands, leading as UST charge that would see her team take eight consecutive points and the set. Rondina would score five of the eight points in the run, two coming from service aces.

La Salle would keep the second set close behind steady offensive output from Cyd Demecillio. Late service errors from both Demecillio and Kim Fajardo would do the Lady Spikers who would battle the springy pair of Rondina and Rivera into a deuce, forcing UST to need 4 match points to finally take the set. Rondina would score 12 of her team’s second set points while Rivera would contribute 8. Demecillo amassed 12 of her team’s second set points while Fajardo gathered 6.

The rookie Cebuana UST pair is one win away from an improbable run at the Beach Volleyball title. They also still hold a thrice-to-beat advantage.
