UP sweeps the 2nd round, 6-0. Clinch the top spot at the end of eliminations


Defending champions, University of the Philippines Lady Maroons ends the elimination round as the top seed team with an 11-1 record.

UP vs ADMU (6-1)

The second round opened in a good note for the Lady Maroons, winning the first two singles matches against their neighbors, the Ateneo de Manila Lady Paddlers. The doubles pair of Joma Sibal and Auriga Rosell would fail to close out, but UP’s Jade Garcia, would spoil Ateneo’s comeback hopes with a 3-1 win in the third singles match.

UP vs UST (7-1)

UP would falter in the first singles match against UST. Joma Sibal, the season 76 most valuable player, would fire back and take the second singles match, 3-0. In the doubles competition, Bea Magpantay and Richanda Ching routed their UST counter parts, 3-1. Rowena Morales would close out the match with a convincing 3-0 win.

UP vs AdU (8-1)

Continuing their winning ways, UP demolished Adamson, 3-0. Lusha Maderal, Noriko Nishino, and Bea Magpantay and Richanda Ching, would all dominate in their respective matches. UP would only allow AdU to win a single doubles match set.

UP vs DLSU (9-1)

The Diliman-based squad would win over the streaking De La Salle Lady Paddlers, in a heated battle. The defending champions, behind Rowena Morales drew first blood by bagging the first match, 3-0. DLSU’s Ian Lariba would avenge the loss by routing her opponent, 3-0. The doubles match was a 5-setter, where DLSU’s Darianne Talento and Ina Co managed to take, 3-2. The next two matches however would belong to UP, with Joma Sibal and Noriko Nishino scoring 3-0, and 3-1 respectively.

UP vs FEU (10-1)

The win streak for the Lady Maroons would continue with a 3-0 win against the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws. UP would struggle at first with FEU’s Rose Fadol managing to take the first match from UP’s Rowena Morales, UP however would rally and take the next three matches. Joma Sibal breezed through her opponent, Sharmela Pineda, 3-0. The Bea Magpantay and Richanda Ching combo would win in a 5 set doubles match, 3-2. Lusha Maderal played executioner with a dominating performance over Josephine Talay, 3-0.

UP vs NU (11-1)

A masterful performance from Rowena Morales, and a comeback rally from Lucha Maderal would give UP the victory in the first two matches. The Lady Maroons would drop the doubles match, 0-3, but Jade Garcia would win a lengthy 4 set match, 3-1.

The UP Lady Maroons proved to be the team to beat with a 6-0 sweep of the second round of eliminations.
