SM By The Bay-A overpowers Champion Infinity, captures men’s PSL Beach Volley title

SM By The Bay A swept Champion Infinity B, 21-17, 23-21 to reign supreme in the Philippine Super Liga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup men’s final Saturday at the Sands SM By The Bay in Manila.

The duo of Jade Becaldo and Hachaliah Gilbuena overpowered the tandem of Marjun Alingasa and Tippy Tipgos from the start, and held forth down the final moments of the match to emerge victorious in the tournament.

The champions pulled away in the first set behind emphatic kills from Becaldo, 13-8. Errors hounded Champion Infinity as SM By The Bay walked away with a 21-17 win in the opener.

The team then built a sizable lead once again in the second frame, 16-11 but the hard-fighting Alingasa delivered back-breaking blows to tie the match at 21 apiece.

Becaldo answered with a kill before a net violation from Champion Infinity gave SM By The Bay the victory. Tigpos tried to contest the call but the officials waved it off.

SM By The Bay A went unblemished for the entire competition to capture the gold medal.

In the battle for the bronze medal, Cignal HD A’s Edmar Bonono and Sandy Montero won via default over Centerstage’s Rence Melgar and John Carlo Lozada as the latter did not show up.
