Nicoele Sibug suffered a dislocated finger earlier in the day in a match against NU’s Crystal Hukom. As the leader of the team, Sibug showed to her team that even an injury could not stop her from competing.
However, UE finweight Dymyr Lobaton escaped with a win over UP’s co-captain with a 9-7 win over Sibug to open the series. In flyweight action, Charizza Alombro soundly defeated Karen Cells with a 7-3 win. Cells only points came from Alombro’s 7 kyonggos. Stephanie Osio continued her perfect run in the tournament with an 8-3 win over Jane Quimora. Kristine Lozada imposed her will in the featherweight bout of the series with a dominant 17-7 win over returning Kristine Cordova. With the UE Lady Jins’ back against the wall, Darlene Arpon blasted Janin Marcaida to win via stoppage due to point gap in a 14-2 win to give UE a glimmer of hope for an upset. Jennifer Samson tried to will her way, even with an injury, to compete against Anne Francesca Torres in welterweight action. However, Samson, visibly hurt, could not find her footing resulting in a stoppage loss to Torres by way of point gap in the 1st round to give UP the win. In the final match, still-perfect Cyrmyn Perlas escaped Ysabel Mercado in sudden death to still go unbeaten in the tournament.
