Philips Gold averts disaster, turns back RC Cola


Things looked grim for the Philips Gold Lady Slammers in their match against the RC Cola Air Raiders in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix, but the team showed grit and determination throughout the match to come away with the victory. Down 0-2 sets, they recovered just in time to turn the match into a 3-2 victory, 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-8, Thursday afternoon.

Once again the wonderful trio from Philips Gold paved the way for their win. This time it was import, Alexis Olgard who topscored for the team, blasting RC Cola with 27 points, 22 from attacks and a whooping 7 blocks. Fellow import, Bojana Todorovic pitched in 25 points, with 22 coming from attacks while serving up 3 aces. Myla Pablo got in on the action with 17 points and 4 blocks.

For the Air Force Raiders, Lynda Morales powered her team to 27 points, with 21 coming from attacks. Sara McClinton dished out 16 points, 13 via attacks, 2 from blocks, and a service ace. Maila Ortiz was the final Air Raider to score in double digits with 12 points and 4 blocks.

The Lady Slammers outscored the Air Force Raiders by double digits in the spiking category, 59-49. They were able to score more on blocks 13-10, with 11 of them coming from Olgard and Pablo. While RC Cola was able to nab more points from the service line 11-8, care of Lynda Morales’ 5 aces, they surrendered slightly more errors to their opponents, 30-28.

Philips Gold’s next opponent will be the Foton Tornadoes on October 25, 3pm at the Cuneta Astrodome. Meanwhile, RC Cola will go against the undefeated Cignal HD Spikers on October 27, 6:15 at the San Juan Arena.
