Philippines crush Singapore, advances to promotional tie in Fed Cup


Top-seeded Philippines dismantled Singapore, 3-0, to win Group A and move on to the promotional playoff of the 2015 FedCup Group II Asia/Oceania, Wednesday, April 15, at the SAAP Tennis Complex, in Hyderabad, India
.
Reigning UAAP Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player Anna Clarice Patrimonio pulled through the challenge of Angeli Devi Devathiran to take the first singles match and the lead, 7-6(5) 7-5.

Katharina Lehnert clinched the tie win for the Filipinas with an impressive 6-1 6-0 victory in the second singles against Khee Yen Wee.

The tandem of Patrimonio and Lehnert made it a sweep for the Philippines as they toppled the Singaporean duo of Devanthiran and Sarah Pang in straight sets, 6-1 6-2.

The Nationals will take on Indonesia for a place in Group I next year on Friday, April 17, at the same venue. The Indonesians hold a commanding 4-0 head-to-head edge against the Philippines with the latest match in 2013 being a sweep. The Philippines is looking to end this streak and regain their place in Group I after 9 years.
