Perpetual names new coaching staff for NCAA Season 92

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas, after the retirement of legendary head coach Aric Del Rosario, have named their new coaching staff for the upcoming NCAA Season 92 Seniors’ basketball tournament.

After the exit of the Altas in the elimination round of the Season 91 tournament, Del Rosario did not renew his contract with the Las Piñas-based school. Taking his place are team owner Antonio Tamayo, former Arellano University assistant coach Atty. Barry Tobias, and Nic Omogrobe.

In a statement by the Las Piñas-based school’s athletic director and representative to the NCAA Management Committee, Jeff Tamayo, the three had been named to their positions yesterday and will start training immediately. “They will start preparation as soon as possible,” said Tamayo.

Antonio Tamayo has played and was a teammate of former Perpetual coach Aric del Rosario for the Santo Tomas Tigercubs, and a former president of the soft tennis association before focusing on running the school. Tobias, for his part, studied at La Salle but finished his law studies at Perpetual Help while Omorogbe played for the Altas whom he helped reached the Final Four in 2012 and 2013.

The Altas are in dire need of a floor general as ace guard Scottie Thompson has gone up to the professional ranks. Foreign student-athletes Bright Akhuetie and Prince Eze will remain with the squad.

The recent appointment left Letran as the only remaining school without a head coach after its former mentor, Aldin Ayo, left to coach for the La Salle Archers in the UAAP.

There were reports that Kerby Raymundo, who had helped the school win the 1998 and 1999 NCAA championships, is being eyed to take over from Ayo but the Knights have not made the official announcement just yet.
