The NU Bulldogs made light work of the UE Red Warriors during their encounter in the UAAP Season 78 Men’s Badminton Tournament. NU won all five matches in their tie as UE was unable to win a single game.

The first match was a singles duel between NU’s Alvin Morada and UE’s Angelo Joaquin David. The match was very much a no contest as Morada easily beat Joaquin in two games with scores of 21-4 and 21-7.

Next up for the second singles match were Keeyan Gabuelo for NU and King Espiritu for UE. Gabuelo dictated the pace of the first game for which Espiritu had so answer, ultimately losing the first game 21-12. The second game was a tighter affair with Espiritu leading in the latter parts of the game only for Gabuelo to score four straight points to make it 20-19. Espiritu then forced a deuce but Gabuelo remained composed and won 23-21.

Immediately after his match, Espiritu partnered with Clarence Camacho for UE while Morada returned with Ariel Magnaye for NU for the first doubles bout. It was a straightforward win for the Bulldogs with Morada and Magnaye easily repelling the moves of their UE counterparts. The scores were 21-15 and 21-12.

The following doubles match was a more competitive contest. Paul Gonzales and Jorvin Carlos partnered up for NU while Arman Manlalang and Kenneth Cruz represented UE. Cruz and Manlalang put up a better fight than their predecessors but it still wasn’t enough as Gonzales and Carlos eventually pulled through for NU.

In the last match, Ross Pedrosa wrapped up the NU sweep of UE against Robin Macatangay. It was the same story as the first match for Pedrosa followed Morada’s example and defeated Macatangay with ease, winning both games 21-8 and 21-6.

Next up for the NU Bulldogs will be the FEU Tamaraws while the UE Red Warriors will go against the UP Fighting Maroons on October 3, 2015 in the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.
