Late fourth quarter rally gives Growling Tigresses victory over Lady Falcons

After surviving three quarters of trading baskets, leads and runs with the Adamson University Soaring Lady Falcons, the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigresses suddenly exploded for a 21-11 fourth quarter pummeling to take home their fourth win of the UAAP Season 77 Women’s Basketball Tournament, 59-47.

The first three quarters saw the Tigresses and Falcons answering each others baskets and trading leads several times in the game, with neither team leading the other by more than five points. Coming into the final period with a narrow 38-36 edge, the Tigresses would find much needed help in Lore Rivera and Maica Cortes, helping out at both ends of the court. With UST controlling the boards and never leting out on the scoring, the Lady Falcons would eventually find themselves in a 43-49 hole midway in the fourth quarter. The next three minutes saw the Growling Tigresses pile on the Lady Falcons, whose shooting continued to decline, eventually building a 55-45 lead with 2:17 left on the clock. With time on their side, UST would hold on to the win, with baskets from Cortes and Rivera putting the icing on the cake for the Tigresses.

Lore Rivera led UST with 14 points and 20 rebounds. Maica Cortes had 13 points and 8 boards, while Kristine Siapoc and Betinna Penaflor had 11 and 10 points respectively. Jingky Balasta had 12 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Adamson scoring.
