Lady Bulldogs clip Lady Tams for 12th win


The National University Lady Bulldogs moved to within two games of another elimination round sweep after they romped past the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 71-57, Sunday in the UAAP Season 78 women’s basketball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The mighty Lady Bulldogs shot 45.2 percent from three-point country as their outside shooting fueled the charge.

Shelley Gupilan opened the match by nailing three consecutive long range shots and that was all the Lady Bulldogs needed to create a lead. Five more triples — three coming from Trixie Antiquiera and two from Janet Sison — bridging the first and second periods pushed the NU lead to 29-12.

Gupilan topscored with 20 points, including six triples. Antiquiera added 15 points, all from three-point area as well.

NU had 29 turnover points off 28 miscues from FEU. The Lady Tamaraws struggled from the floor, shooting only 28.1 percent. Clare Castro paced the Morayta side with a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds.

NU swept the Season 77 tournament after going 14-0 in the elimination round and beating FEU in the finals, 2-0.

The Lady Tamaraws succumbed to 2-10 in the team standings.
