Kia wants Haddadi as import, eyes player in the mold of Cabagnot

Following early elimination in the Philippine Cup, the Kia Sorento are now starting to make plans for next conference where they will be allowed to get an import with no height limit.

“Dapat yung malaki talaga ang kunin namin, kung pwede nga seven-footer,” Kia assistant coach said during the post game interview.
With that in mind, Capacio disclosed their preference. “Ang gusto namin si (Hamed) Haddadi,” added Capacio, referring to the Iranian star player who led the team to three FIBA Asia Championship gold medal finish.

But there’s one problem, despite the fact that Kia had already started communicating with Haddadi’s camp.

“Syempre yung salary,” said Capacio, knowing the caliber of the former Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns center. “NBA-caliber yan eh, although we’ve already e-mailed his agent.”

But aside from getting a dominant, big import, the Sorento are also planning to beef up their team the soonest possible time. They’ve tried to field in as many as 20 players this conference, hoping to find the right mix. “We’re three to four players to becoming a competitive team,” he added. “We’re looking for a guard, someone in the mold of Alex Cabagnot, who can set up the plays, defend and score. We also need a big player, a scoring big player. But we cannot get them at this time because they’re already playing for other teams.”

“Ayaw rin naman naming ibigay yung draft pick for next season because we feel malalim yung draft next season,” he added.
