Kat Tolentino suffers knee injury prior to V-League debut

Ateneo blitzed through UST in their debut match of the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Collegiate Conference, defeating the Tigresses in four sets, 25-11, 27-25, 19-25, 25-20. The day didn’t start happily for the ladies in blue, however, as their prized rookie, Kat Tolentino, sister of Ateneo basketball player, Vince Tolentino, suffered a knee injury while warming up for the game.

Being the first tournament to suit up for her school, it was supposed to be a momentous occasion for the young athlete, but it all came crashing down as she landed awkwardly after a routine practice spike.

After her fall, staff and players quickly came to her side to see what happened. Teary-eyed, she was helped off the court by her brother Arvin and team captain Alyssa Valdez, who gave her words of encouragement. The scene was taken from twitter user @itsMeAiryn25.

But things aren’t all that bad for the Atenean. After the initial assessment of the injury, former Ateneo Athletic Director Ricky Palou shared with Tiebreaker Times that while they are not 100% sure what the injury is, all signs point to it being a simple knee sprain.

“We don’t know what the injury is, so on Monday we’ll bring her to Dr. Canlas. Though it looks like just a simple knee sprain. It doesn’t seem like the injury is serious. Hopefully she’ll be able to play in their game next week.”
