John Apacible suspended for the rest of the regular season

“Don’t drink and drive.”

Ateneo sophomore John Apacible learned this lesson the hard way as the Blue Eagles have suspended the big man for the rest of the season.

Early Sunday morning, Apacible was caught on video in a short clip by Top Gear confronting drivers and shouting expletives at Timog Avenue in Quezon City. Visibly drunk, the Atenean proudly displayed his “Councilor” vanity plate, who according to some reports are his girlfriend’s.

ALCOHOL WILL MAKE YOU A CELEBRITYIn the Philippines, if you have a protocol plate, you’re allowed to drive drunk and do this for all to see. From Yan Bote: “Along Timog Avenue in Quezon City. Plate number ACA-7111. Lasing na lasing yung driver tapos nanggulpi ng driver ng delivery van at nanghampas ng dumadaang kotse tapos nanggigitgit ng mga sasakyan. Di man lang hinuli ng mga pulis. Hinayaan pa magdrive kahit lasing at may mga nagrereklamo.”

In a statement released by Ateneo athletics director Em Fernandez, the bruiser is set to face disciplinary sanctions from both the team and the school as a result. The team still is supporting Apacible as he goes to right the wrongs of his act.

Late Monday morning, the team has deemed that Apacible will be suspended for the second round of the tournament according to a report by ABS-CBN News. Apacible is banned to go to attend practices and any Ateneo basketball-related activities for the season. Moreover, school sanctions are yet to be hammered on him while his case will be re-assessed after the second round.

Apacible is currently averaging 2 points and 1.7 boards per game in seven minutes of action. He is currently perfect from the field with an 11/11 clip
