‘Hindi na dapat umabot sa ganun’: Lee downplays last second heroics in Rain or Shine’s fourth straight win

Paul Lee reasserted his heroics with his mother team, Rain or Shine, in Tuesday’s exciting game against NLEX, just like what he did in the FIBA Asia Cup where he showed nerves of steel.

He scored five of his team’s last eight points in the last 31 seconds, helping the Elasto Painters in coming up with a great escape.

Lee had a cold-blooded triple then followed it up with two pressure-packed free-throws that touched off the Elasto Painters’ big endgame scoring run.

But for Lee, the game should have been a done deal earlier.

“Hindi na dapat umabot doon eh,” Lee told media minutes after Rain or Shine booked its sixth win in eight games to stay within striking distance of league leaders Alaska and San Miguel Beer, which are both a game ahead of the Elasto Painters.

Lee finished with 27 points, six rebounds and three assists.

The star point guard downplayed his performance, saying “We’re up by big points nung natapos yung first half tapos nung nag-zone sila, hindi kami maka-convert,”.

But Lee acknowledged the team’s resiliency, despite losing their big lead and falling behind by six with less than 35 seconds left in the game. The Elasto Painters’ experience played a vital role in turning the tables on the Road Warriors.

“Nakita ko pa rin na gustong manalo ng mga teammates ko,” added Lee. “Hanggang sa dulo, tulung-tulong kami hanggang makuha yung panalo.”
