Gilas cadets pull away late, thump Indonesia in SEAG men’s basketball opener

Kiefer Ravena sparked a huge third quarter run for the Gilas cadets as the Philippines pulled away in the second half to record an 81-52 win over Indonesia Wednesday in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.

Ravena poured 16 points in total, helping the Philippines transform a slim 35-24 halftime margin into a commanding 60-39 bubble after the third period.

The Philippines shot 57 percent from the field in the penultimate quarter while also forcing 10 turnovers from the Indonesian side.

Troy Rosario provided ample help underneath, finishing with a double-double effort of 15 points and 11 rebounds to aid Marcus Douthit, who sprained his ankle earlier in the match. The naturalized big would return later. Almond Vosotros meanwhile fired 14 which included three triples.

Gilas shot significantly better from the field at 42 percent while Indonesia was a lethargic 27 percent. The Philippine side also posted a 48-31 edge in rebounding although needs to improve in taking care of the ball as they threw it away 21 times.

Oki Wira Sanjaya led Indonesia with 9 points while Rony Gunawan and Ebrahim Enguio added 8 points apiece.
