Ella De Jesus has one last wish before she ends her UAAP career

Ateneo is one win away from earning back-to-back championships in the women’s volleyball tournament. The Lady Eagles have been dominating all season long, sweeping the elimination round to earn an automatic finals berth and routing their rivals, the DLSU Lady Spikers, in 3 sets during Game 1 of the Finals.

In between their last game of the elimination round and Game 1 of the Finals, the Lady Eagles have had roughly 20 days of no UAAP action. Despite the long layoff, Ateneo has not been taking it easy. Aside from playing against other teams during UAAP game days to keep in shape, the team has increased their training days as well.

It appears this change in routine has paid off, as one of Ateneo’s graduating players, Ella De Jesus said that the team remains focused on their goal of winning another championship.

“Dun sa break namin hindi kami binigyan ni Coach Tai ng kahit isang araw ng pahinga. Nagttraining kami hanggang Sunday eh,” shared De Jesus. “Yung mindset namin is wag kami mawala na ‘yung focus is hindi pa tapos yung season, tsaka wag kami mag relax.”

With the Philippine Super Liga (PSL) season right around the corner, Ella was asked if she had any plans of continuing her volleyball career after the UAAP. While her mind is still preoccupied with the task at hand, Ella claimed she hasn’t given it any thought at all.

“Actually I still don’t have any plans. Hindi ko pa iniisip eh. For now, UAAP muna yung focus ko,” shared Ella.

Known as a powerful spiker despite her height, there are sure to be teams looking to make use of her talents in the PSL. “May ibang kumakausap,” added De Jesus, but of course, since she has yet to make up her mind about joining the semi-pro ranks, she has yet to give them an answer.

Ella was an integral piece in Ateneo’s championship run last year, helping Ateneo defeat La Salle in four games. As her UAAP stint comes to a close, Ella De Jesus has one last wish before she graduates, one last hurdle before she reaches the end of her collegiate career, and that is to give Ateneo another championship.

“Another championship. Yun lang talaga yung goal namin. Sabi ko nga wala akong ibang hihilingin na best way to end my career eh, to give another championship to Ateneo,” ended Ella De Jesus.
