Claveras retains WBC Asia Light Flyweight title; still perfect at 12-0, 12 KOs

Unbeaten KO artist Richard Claveras of United Boxing Gym retained his WBC Asia Light Flyweight title with a spectacular first round annihilation of Demsi Manufoe from Jakarta, Indonesia last Saturday night, January 31, 2015 at the Mandaluyong Gym in Mandaluyong City.

Manufoe went down and failed to beat the referee’s count after a powerful right straight to the body caught the Indonesian challenger. Official time was 37 seconds.

“I trained very hard for this fight,” said Claveras, when asked on how he prepared heading into the fight. “I’m looking to land those championship fights to further improve my standing in the world stage,” he added.

This was Claveras’ third successful defense of the WBC Asia Light Flyweight belt after he captured it June of last year by knocking out Namphol Sithsaithong of Thailand at the Makati Cinema Square Boxing Arena in Makati City.

In an interview with Michael De Castro, the manager of Claveras, he revealed that Claveras will defend the title again this March to keep the United Boxing Gym prizefighter busy, climbing up the rankings and possibly getting a title eliminator or, hopefully, a title shot along the way.

With this victory, the hard-hitting native of Negros Occidental improves his record to 12-0-2 with all of his wins coming by way of knockout.

In the co-main event of the evening, Philippine Flyweight champion Ardin Diale made quick work of his Indonesian foe Rommy Wassar as he knocked him out with a vicious left uppercut to the jaw at the 30 second mark of the very first round of their scheduled 10 round fight. Diale improves to 27-9-3 with 14 KOs.

After a lot of close rounds to score, former WBC Youth champion Rene Daquel didn’t let the fight go to the judges’ scorecards as he stopped Menard Avila of Arci Boxing Stable in the 8th round with a perfectly placed right hook to the body that sent Avila crashing. Official time was 2:57.
