Cignal downs Mane ‘n Tail; avoids last place finish

After a heartbreaking loss in Lucena, the Cignal HD Spikers salvaged what was left of their season, taking care of the Mane ‘n Tail Lady Stallions in four sets 20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 to claim fifth place in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Cup, at the Cuneta Astrodome.

FEU Product, Cherry Mae Vivas, topped all HD spikers with 17 points, while Jeanette Panaga and Mela Tunay contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively. After losing the first, Cignal head coach, Sammy Acaylar decided to field Libero, Rica Jane Enclona and Setter Jan Ticar, in place of his regular starters. The adjustment worked as both bench players played tremendously with Enclona recording 22 excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions, while Ticar handed out 21 excellent sets.

Mane ‘n Tail ends its AFC campaign on a six-game losing streak. Former HD Spiker, Royse Tubino once again led the Lady Stallions in scoring with 17 markers, while Middle Blocker, Abi Praca, paced the Lady Stallions with 15 points.

Cignal records its first finish out of the Top Four sice the PSL’s inception. Hope for a better finish in the upcoming Grand Prix remains bright as the HD Spikers are reportedly going to add last season’s import Lindsay Staltzer to their young core.
