Ceres-La Salle secures Schröck contract atleast till June

One of the stars of the Philippines will join the already stacked Ceres-La Salle FC.

Stephan Schröck has committed to join Ceres-La Salle FC Thursday afternoon.

As one of the key cogs of the Philippine Men’s National Football Team, the 29-year-old has been one of the crowd darlings for home games of the Azkals. Be it a match in Rizal, Bulacan or Bacolod; Schröck commands a crowd especially after THAT goal against Kuwait in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

One of Schröck’s main attributes is his versatility. He may have been a full-back for his parent club, SpVgg Greuther Fürth, but he has been used as a central midfielder and a striker for the Azkals.

Notwithstanding his momentary disagreement with Azkals coach Thomas Dooley, Schröck has regained his place and stature in the national squad.

To sum it all up, Schröck is probably the biggest star in Philippine Football after Azkals captain Phil Younghusband but he is arguably as talented as the skipper.

Despite being only a loan move, expect Schröck to have a big impact on the Ceres squad.

Ceres-La Salle team manager Ali Go explained, “Schröck’s move is still just a loan as of the moment but other possibilities will be discussed after the loan finishes.”

After signing Kevin Ingreso late last year, the Filipino-German is set to join Ceres for both their AFC Cup and UFL campaign. This is a big boost for the club.

The move to get Schröck started in the most unusual way. Go narrated, “his move started as a joke during the Azkals vs Yemen game in Manila last November.

Even though it started as a simple “joke”, count on Schröck’s move to not only benefit his team but the league and his club in all seriousness.

Ceres-La Salle already won last season’s league competition and finished as runners-up to Kaya in the UFL Cup. Expect the Bacolod-based squad to prosper more in the UFL and in their AFC Cup Group Stage debut.
